Cape Canaveral Florida
Cape Canaveral and the 72 miles of Brevard County beaches are
known as Florida's Space Coast and it's just 55 miles east of Orlando.
Cape Canaveral has everything from nature trails, kayaking, boating, beach
fishing, surfing, swimming, and of course, sun bathing. Port Canaveral's
Jetty Park Pier spans 1200 feet for fishing which conveniently has cleaning
tables for your fresh catch of the day and lights for nighttime fishing.
From the pier you can watch manatees, dolphins, Loggerhead sea turtles,
cruise ships and other boats coming and going out of the Port Canaveral.
And, if you are lucky enough you may see a submarine going through the
inlet. As well, watching rocket or shuttle launches from the pier is a
favorite of locals and the lucky tourists as this is the closest public
viewing of launches from NASA's Kennedy Space Center.
There are several beachside parks with restroom and shower facilities,
picnicking areas and playgrounds. Cape Canaveral area hotels are a little
expensive but worth it with views of the Indian River or the Atlantic
Ocean. The Radisson Resort at the Port has a hot tub in some rooms. The
real estate in the area is pricey, but you are surrounded by Florida's
beautiful beaches and rivers. There are many restaurants close by including
Thai Thai - the best sushi, Grills - fresh seafood, and Taste of Goa -
gourmet Indian lunch buffet.

There are a couple of campgrounds in the area that are reasonable with
short- and long-term RVing, and Port Canaveral has Jetty Park which has
tent sites as well as full RV hook ups and a camp store. The Cove at The
Port is a harbor-side marketplace with live entertainment, restaurants,
bait and tackle shops, freshly caught seafood stores, three marinas, two
casino cruise boats, and many charter and party fishing boats that cruise
to the Atlantic or the Indian River. Beautiful sunrises can be enjoyed
from the beaches of Cape Canaveral as well as sunsets on the Indian River.

Pine Island, in Merritt Island near the Kennedy Space Center, holds quite
an adventure for the strong at heart. Kayaking in this body of water can
be dangerous with all the resident alligators swimming and sunning. The
alligators aren't afraid of the kayaks either, we had a couple of them
bump us from underneath. Make family memories nobody will ever forget,
visit Cape Canaveral.
Jason's thoughts - If you are a tourist, Ron John
Surf Shop in Cocoa Beach is the largest in world. Real estate has gotten
a bit more expensive and insurance rates don't help those looking for
a home or condo on the beach.
Kelly's thoughts - I love this beach, especially
at low tide. Great for running, walking or biking. This is somewhat of
a slow-paced town if you want it to be with all conveniences within walking
distance. Otherwise, Merritt Island and Melbourne have the movies, shopping,
and chain restaurants and Orlando is very close.
Travel info - There is RV day-use parking at Port Canaveral's
Jetty Park. There is no other RV parking in Cape Canaveral at any of the
other public beachside parking lots. Map location of Cape
Canaveral, Florida. Visit Cape Canaveral.
